摘要:This work introduces a new modeling approach that integrates classical disease dynamics with behavioral insights drawn from the Health Belief Model (HBM) to examine the disparate impacts of epidemics on disadvantaged populations. By extending the standard SIR model to incorporate both the propensity-to-adopt-behavior (PAB) and a socio-economic structure variable, our approach captures how differential risk and responsiveness to public health messaging contribute to the unequal burden of disease. We explore the effects of varied messaging strategies including positive, negative, and simultaneous cues to behavioral change and epidemic progression. Selected simulations demonstrate that not only do traditional transmission dynamics matter, but also that individual behavioral responses and socio-economic factors play a crucial role in shaping epidemic outcomes. This interdisciplinary work underscores the importance of incorporating human behavior into infectious disease models to better inform public health interventions and policy decisions aimed at reducing health disparities.
